SPOTLIGHT: THE SOUTHERN PLAINS LAND TRUST

SPLT Bison Herd

The Southern Plains Land Trust (SPLT) will use a $5,000 grant from the Wright-Ingraham Institute toward their efforts to restore the American Serengeti. SPLT has launched a campaign to raise $1 million by the end of 2019 to complete the expansion of the beautiful Heartland Ranch in southeast Colorado to more than 30 square miles. SPLT won’t stop there! They aim to more than double the size of this vibrant wildlife preserve to about 70 square miles by 2025.

These vast rolling grasslands provide shelter to bison, elk, pronghorn, prairie dogs, badgers, raptors, songbirds, and many other native animals. Their efforts help to create large protected areas that prairie wildlife so urgently need.
